53.2: Pneumatics
( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)
The science of the mechanical properties of air (or other elastic fluids) is called pneumatics (after the Greek word πvϵvμα, meaning breath or air). It is a counterpart of hydraulics, but using air instead of water as the working fluid. The primary difference between the two fluids is that air is fairly compressible, while water is largely incompressible.
